More than 25 years ago, Henry Rollins made a name for himself as the frenzied, tattooed front man for the hardcore punk band Black Flag. While many of his contemporaries have long since disappeared from the stage, Rollins is still performing. The free-associating wordsmith still dabbles in music but also gives spoken-word performances and has toured with the United Service Organizations (USO), providing comic relief to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.During his career, Rollins has averaged more than 100 performances a year and shows no signs of slowing down. He has tackled Lollapalooza and Woodstock, appeared on late night television with Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno, and snagged the occasional acting gig alongside such A-list celebrities as Will Smith and Al Pacino. Rollins even won a Grammy, for the audio book Get in the Van , an account of his road-tripping band days. In 2004, Rollins moved from performing onstage to behind the camera as host of his own television show on the Independent Film Channel. At first, the show focused on movies, but by 2006, he had extended the format to also include critiques of music, politics, and pop culture amidst a steady stream of celebrity guests and musicians. During the 1980s, Black Flag toured incessantly, covering the United States and Canada and occasionally visiting Europe. The band took its name in reference to the traditional anarchist symbol of a black flag. Rollins proved to be a dynamic live performer and with him at the helm, Black Flag attracted a large fan base. Often, Rollins appeared onstage barefoot, wearing only shorts?veins popping, sweat spewing?as he hopped around, sometimes crouching to expel the lyrics and showing off his highly muscular, tattooed body. Washington Post reporter Joe Brown once wrote that a Black Flag concert is like a storm with "wild-child Rollins, raging and blazing in a pair of black shorts, the antithesis of calm. His rock output consists of idealistic lyrics sung-shouted over the band's assault?harsh, grinding, exhilarating songs that don't stop until they run out of gas or hit the guardrail." During Rollins' tenure with Black Flag, the group released several albums and singles, then folded in 1986. After the band's breakup, Rollins formed a new group, the Rollins Band, which played similar music, though it included passages of jazz and a touch more heavy metal. The Rollins Band produced music at a feverish pace, releasing three albums between 1988 and 1990. Having established itself as a key player in the alternative rock world, the Rollins Band was invited to perform at the first Lollapal- ooza, in 1991. The band's 1992 release, The End of Silence , shot to No. 1 on the College Music Journal 's chart. The group's most noteworthy album, however, was 1994's Weight , which cracked Billboard 's Top 40. One of the album's singles, "Liar," garnered heavy rotation on MTV and helped the band win an invitation to appear at Woodstock '94. With frequent appearances on MTV and VH-1, Rollins continued to gain a following and in 1994, the charismatic entertainer appeared in his first film, The Chase , starring Charlie Sheen. That same year Details , the magazine for hip urban men, named Rollins its "Man of the Year." As a band leader Rollins wrote many songs, but over the years he branched out and also published opinion pieces and stream-of-consciousness rants in various rock journals and magazines. Along the way, he also began to give spoken-word performances, which brought his written material to life. Rollins produces books through his own publishing company, 2.13.61, which is named for his birthdate. Founded in 1984, the company has published Rollins' journals, as well as books by Australian musician Nick Cave and Exene Cervenka of the punk band X. Like his songs, Rollins' books have an angry, raw tone. A frequent subject is his dreary childhood and the death of his best friend and roommate, Joe Cole, who died after they were held up at gunpoint outside their apartment in 1991. Rollins also writes about politics. By 1997, Rollins had published ten books and produced several audio books, including the 1995 best spoken word Grammy winner Get in the Van , a recollection of his days on the road with Black Flag. Reserved tickets are $25. On sale date is Friday March 12 at noon. |

Over the course of their 30-plus year career, The Holmes Brothers (bassist/vocalist Sherman Holmes, guitarist/pianist/vocalist Wendell Holmes, drummer/vocalist and brother-in-spirit Popsy Dixon) have been feeding the souls of their devoted and ever-growing fan base with a joyous and moving blend of blues, gospel, soul, R&B, rock ‘n’ roll and country. Their amazing three-part harmony singing, mixing Wendell’s gruff and gravelly vocals with Popsy’s soaring falsetto and Sherman’s rich baritone brings the soul and spirit of gospel music into everything they perform. Equally gripping is the rhythmic foundation laid down by Sherman’s bass playing and Popsy’s drumming, perfectly complementing Wendell’s blues-soaked guitar solos and church-inspired piano playing. The band easily blends Saturday night’s roadhouse rock with the gospel fervor and harmonies of Sunday morning’s church service. From winning multiple Blues Music Awards to sharing stages and recordings with Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, Willie Nelson, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Merle Haggard, Keith Richards, Al Green, Ben Harper, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Levon Helm, Rosanne Cash, Odetta, and The Jungle Brothers, The Holmes Brothers have seemingly done it all. Recently though, The Holmes Brothers confronted a stark reality when brother Wendell was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. Tight-knit on and off the stage, they found strength in their family, friendship and faith to overcome this setback. With Wendell’s victory over the disease, the group emerged fully energized and inspired to create the deepest, most original, most satisfying album of their career. Feed My Soul, produced by their longtime friend and collaborator Joan Osborne, is an album born from this harrowing experience. The songs deal with friendship, loyalty, family, aging, illness, as well as politics and the current state of the world, while still maintaining the patented Holmes Brothers sense of humor. Mostly though, the album is about triumphing over adversity, overcoming obstacles and, ultimately, it is a declaration of the power and faith of a strong and devoted family. On Sale Now! Advance tickets $10 or $15 day of show. |

Burlesque Le'Moustache .... What is Burlesque? Put simply, burlesque means "in an upside down style". Like its cousin, commedia dell'arte, burlesque turns social norms head over heels. Burlesque is a style of live entertainment that encompasses pastiche, parody, and wit. The genre traditionally encompasses a variety of acts such as dancing girls, chanson singers, comedians, mime artists, and striptease artistes, all satirical and with a saucy edge. The striptease element of burlesque became subject to local legislation, leading since to a theatrical form that titillates without falling foul of the censors. The Capitol Theatre is pleased to bring this delightful form of vintage MATURE entertainment to the QC. Take a small step on the wild side and enjoy a Spring full of fun with the women (and men) of Burlesque Le' Moustache. Tickets are $20 in advance or $22 day of show. They will be available for purchase on Monday March 1. They will be available either online, the Capitol box office, Moline Co-op Records by calling 563-326-8820 or toll free 888-512-SHOW. Ages 21+ only. No photography or video of any kind is permitted at this event. |

Blood Into Wine, the eagerly awaited documentary on Tool/Puscifer
front man Maynard James Keenan and his vineyard partner Eric Glomskis
mission to bring notoriety and respect to Northern Arizonas burgeoning
wine industry, will premiere at the Capitol Theatre on Friday Feb 19 at
7PM with additional showings of the film only on Feb 20, 21 and 26.
While the film focuses on Keenans winemaking, Blood Into Wine gives a larger
picture of the often reclusive singer. Maynard is as mysterious and
complex as rumored so we don't know exactly why he allowed our cameras
and questions into his world for the winemaking year of 2009, explains
co-director Ryan Page. "But once we got past his pitbulls and his crossbows we were surprised that Maynard was open with us challenging the perception of him as a celebrity winemaker and the notion that making wine in Arizona is like making wine on the moon. Maynard and Eric continue to surprise the winemaking world right now," co-director Christopher Pomerenke adds. Co-directed by Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke (Moog, The Heart is a Drum Machine), the documentary was shot using multiple Red One cameras, allowing cinematographer Cary Truelick to capture the craggy landscape surrounding Keenans vineyards in stunning detail. Editor Robert Beadle skillfully worked with over 200 hours of footage to help craft the story of two pioneer winemakers in an unforgiving region. Blood Into Wine was Produced by Chris "Topper" McDaniel, Ryan Page, Jason Stall, and Christopher Pomerenke. Selections by the glass of Arizona Stronghold wine will be available for purchase at the bar. Admission is $5. Showtime is 7pm. Tickets are available at the door. |

Never a group to be pigeonholed, Lotus brings many musical weapons to the stage. From festival stages such as Rothbury, Wakarusa and Red Rocks to theaters across the country the band has left grinning crowds dripping with sweat. Equal parts dance and rock, Lotus has been crafting a unique brand of instrumental rock for the past decade.
Their latest release Oil on Glass/Feather on Wood “proves that no words are needed to elicit any feelings, the instrumentals alone are enough to connote a myriad of emotions.” The dual EPs show the multiple sides of Lotus with Feather on Wood showcasing slow-building guitar driven compositions and Oil on Glass leaning toward harder beats and textures. Like a Lotus show, the two sides work together to form a cohesive whole. The big light show and pounding beats may be club inspired, but the band’s ability to connect with the audience through emotive composition and dynamic improvisation pushes performances past the elusive barrier dividing concert and experience. General admission tickets are $15 in advance or $18 day of show. They will be available on December 18. |

For the past three decades, Leo Kottke has pursued a unique musical vision that has placed him among the foremost acoustic guitar stylists of our time. Kottke’s ability to embrace folk idioms and pop melodies as readily as he assimilates jazz and classical influences makes him unique among guitar virtuosi. Over the years, Kottke has worked in the studio and shared concert stages with everyone from Lyle Lovett, Mike Gordon, John Fahey, T-Bone Burnett and Rickie Lee Jones, to Paco de Lucia, Pepe Romero, John Williams, John McLaughlin and Joe Pass. Since the guitarist’s 1969 debut, 12 String Blues, recorded live at a Minneapolis folk club, Kottke went on to release over 30 studio albums, consistently winning over new fans while continuing to surprise and delight longtime aficionados.
While his gravelly baritone and omnipresent fedora, dark glasses and Groucho Marx moustache made him one of the more distinct and recognizable characters in popular music, little is known about the neo-vaudeville crooner Leon Redbone. He made his recording debut in 1976 with On the Track, which featured legendary jazz violinist Joe Venuti as well as singer/songwriter Don McLean; his 1977 follow-up Double Time even reached the U.S. Top 40 charts, largely on the strength of his frequent appearances on television's "Saturday Night Live." He performed the theme song for the popular 1980s sitcom Mr. Belvedere, as well as Your Feet's Too Big, the theme from the syndicated sitcom Harry and the Hendersons. He appears regularly on the PBS children's show Between the Lions. He did a cover of Frank Loesser's romantic Christmas song Baby, It's Cold Outside with Zooey Deschanel for the closing credits of the 2003 film Elf. He also voiced the character of Leon the Snowman in the same film. Reserved tickets are priced at $$35.50 and $30.00 and will go onsale December 4. |

The recently renovated Capitol Theater at 330 West Third Street in Davenport is one of the few true concert halls left in the mid-west. It’s a truly magnificent room, and if you’re not wild about concert seating, not to worry. Lon and his team have removed several rows of seats up front, leaving room for tables and a considerable dance floor. We probably won’t begin to fill the place, but if you’ve experienced one of Cummings’ shows before, you’ll know that’s only because there’s quite a few blues fans who haven’t been turned on to him…yet.
If you are one of the lucky ones who’ve seen him locally, it might have been his appearance at our blues fest in 2007. He impressed so many folks there that we brought him back in January of ’08. He packed the old Caribbean Cove Showroom at the Isle of Capri Casino in Bettendorf, and everyone in attendance left afterward describing the show as an unqualified success. (Well, almost everybody. There was this one guy…) Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. |
Jump into those cowboy boots and get ready for a real good time! The Capitol welcomes Robert Earl Keen . Referred to as the “unofficial godfather of a brand new Texas outlaw country scene”, Keen brings literate storytelling with a genre that falls between folk and alt-country. Sure to get the party started and keep it going all night, don't miss Robert Earl Keen as he makes his Davenport debut. Co-billed is fellow Texan, Todd Snider. Snider is a renegade storyteller who crafts songs about the everyday man and truthful observations of society with trademark wit. Opening the show is Texan #3, singer/songwriter, Bruce Robison. Bruce has written several songs which have become hits, including: "Travelin' Soldier," (covered by the Dixie Chicks, reached No. 1 on the country charts), "Angry All the Time," (recorded by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, also reached No. 1 on the country charts); and "Wrapped," which was a No. 1 hit for George Strait Seating for this show is reserved with all tickets priced at $25. On sale date has been moved back to Sept 11. |
Here is the one you've been waiting. MMA's greatest fighters get it on in prime time on the 48 ft. Capitol Theatre screen in hi-definition. The food will be hot and the bar will be open.Emelianenko, widely regarded as the sport's top heavyweight fighter, enters the contest with a 26-fight win streak (with 20 stoppages), including victories over former UFC champions Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia in his two most recent bouts. He had been slated to fight Josh Barnett at "Affliction: Trilogy," but Barnett was denied a license due to a failed drug test, and the Aug. 1 event was scrapped altogether a few days later. Rogers, meanwhile, enters the contest with a perfect 10-0 record with 10 stoppages. In fact, only one opponent (Abongo Humphrey) lasted more than a round with the Minnesota-based fighter. Most recently, Rogers, who had campaigned for Barnett's slot before the "Trilogy" event was ultimately canceled, scored a stunning 22-second knockout win over former UFC champ Arlovski at a June Strikeforce event in St. Louis. 25 years ago Arnulfo Camarillo was hired by the YWCA in downtown Moline to create a dance presentation for a Mother’s Day celebration that the Y was going to host. “In 1984 they hired me for 6 weeks, after the 6 weeks was up, they kept re-hiring me until the YWCA closed and we were left with nowhere to go,” says Mr. Camarillo. “I broke the news to the kids and the families of the dance group and the little ones began to cry because they did not want to stop dancing. They convinced me to keep the dance group going.” The QCBF has kept going and has had countless performances throughout the Quad Cities and has performed at colleges, universities, and events in states like Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Arizona. Their award winning performances have made headlines and have been complimented with many standing ovations.
On Saturday October 3rd at 7:00pm The Capitol Theatre on 3rd and Ripley in Downtown Davenport will host the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico 25th Anniversary Gala complete with a live mariachi, the current members of the QCBF, and a special performance by the group’s alumni dancers some of whom have not danced in over 10 years. Arnulfo Camarillo started this group and now his daughter Karina Camarillo runs it. Both have done this and plan on continuing to do this free of charge. Mr. Camarillo said, “This is not for my benefit I am just doing my part to keep our culture going, it’s an obligation for all of us of Mexican descent to keep our traditions alive. When I danced in Mexico, it was the best times of my life, I do it for the love and passion that I have for the dance, I love it, and I want these kids to feel the same.” Tickets are $20 and are available online or at the Capitol Theatre box office. They may also be purchased from QCBF dance group members or by calling Tar Macias at 309-269-3195. |

Christian music's rockin' sister group, Barlowgirl is back with their signature blend of power chords and soaring choruses! Embodying the juxtaposition of the hope we have in God with the struggles of the faith journey, BarlowGirl's latest release "Love and War" encourages you in "Beautiful Ending," "Our Worlds Collide," "A Love Song," "Come Alive Tonight," "No More Sorrow," "Tears Fall," and more.
Barlowgirl has gained a following with their “Anti-Conformity” message of “Don’t be conformed, be Transformed” from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Superchick is living up to its name. Its first four albums have combined for 700,000 copies sold, more than 70 film, television and videogame song placements, and five No. 1 singles. But for a band inspired to empower its listeners, its new album, "Rock What You Got " does more than walk the talk… it rocks the talk!“This album is about empowerment and hope, don’t be afraid to cross the lines that people put up to limit you when you know you are better than that.” Or as songwriter/keyboardist Max Hsu puts it, “This album calls on people to wake up and find their destiny.” Also appearing is VOTA from Lincoln, Nebraska This is an all ages concert. Reserved tickets are $17.50, $15 and $14. |

FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF
Doors 6:30pm | Curtain 7:30pm
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange is a choreopoem that is a combination of music, dancin
g and poetry. This play focuses on the relationship between African American males and females while living in American society. Shange’s ways of breaking the traditional style of language found within the pages allow for many possibilities along with the bare stage, allows the audiences’ focus to narrow down to the characters story. Even though this play was first produced in New York City at Studio Riobea in 1975, the themes like identity, relationships, abandonment, physical and emotional abuse, are still apply to women of today. The power of language, music and dance is used to help alleviate the women’s thoughts of pain. The decision to take on a directing project gave the campus and I a chance to explore and learn new things. The play provides opportunities that are not normally presented through the theatre department and gives the community a chance to get a glimpse of the struggles that occur in the lives of African American women. The theatre departments has supported this project and is helping out as much as possible to explore this challenge that is set ahead of us but the ending results will have an infinite amount of rewards. The production is May 22nd at 7:30pm and admission is FREE to the public. For more information contact Karen Roebuck 563-676-4746. |

Brian's standard of excellence was set from the beginning. Watching such masters as Johnny Carson, The Smothers Brothers and Steve Martin, Brian was enthralled with the world of comedy and tried stand-up right out of college at a Ft. Lauderdale club an hour from his hometown of Miami. With his first appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" in 1995, Brian solidified his place on the show and has returned at least once each year since to visit Dave. He now includes regular visits to "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on his schedule. A perfect pairing of comedic excellence, Comedy Central has aligned with Brian in a rare multi-platform deal embracing him as a premier comedian of the network. Through prolific writing and tireless touring, Brian is the rare comedian to make the leap from comedy clubs to theaters without the exposure of his own TV show or film. It is the quality of his material, relatable to a wide audience and revered by his peers, which continues to grow Brian's fan base. Seating is reserved. Tickets are $35 and won't last forever. |

Doors 6pm Show 7pm | Tickets $8 advance $10 at the door
• Dark Meat and Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson
JOIN US FOR AN UNDESCRIBABLE NIGHT OF MUSIC FROM DAYTROTTER !! DAMIEN JURADO sings his urban folk with his hand in the basketsof all the right fringe genres. He's a story-teller, and the stories have matured steadily since he first appeared on the scene with the perfect balance of light-hearted pop and saddest of the sad. DARK MEAT are an Athens ensemble mixing elements of blues, punk rock, psychedelic jams, jazz and Zappa/Beefheart styled explosions. Imagine THE STOOGES meets CRAZY HORSE with killer Stax / Funeral / Marching band horns, wailing gospel-style female backing vocals, ripping guitar leads and free jazz freakouts. DARK MEAT is singer/guitarist Jim McHugh, bassist Ben Clack, guitarist Kris,Forrest on drums and percussionist/cymbal master Jason Robira. The group features a backing vocal ensemble called the Subtweeters who offer cheap thrills in the mold of BIG BROTHER AND THE HOLDING COMPANY. The horn section is led by Charlie (trumpet) and Aaron (trombone) with waves of reeds from Jeff, Al, and Becky. MILES BENJAMIN ANTHONY ROBINSON - think Neil Young meets Arcade Fire. Earnest lyrics that tell a story, fuzzed out guitars, booming drums, surprisingly huge sound for what may seem like a singer/songwriter affair. His self-titled album has its personal, quiet moments and climactic parts where the sound completely takes you over. We can't wait to see this guy in concert! |

driver of the year seeks to unite all the best flavors that have soaked
into their heads throughout the smoke and brews of twenty-five years of musical obsessions ...the cut of Sabbath, the strut of Roxy Music, the sheer wit of Steely Dan and maybe a touch of Yes. The heartbeat of a first kiss, the adrenaline from skipping school, the frenzy of an overdriven Rhodes backed up by the reincarnated John Bonham, some phased out Les Paul and a slinky-ass behind the beat thump from the palest bass playing dude ever to drink a 32oz. The Austin-based rock band Spoon has been making tight, adventurous art-pop for nearly 15 years. On the strength of frontman Britt Daniel's meticulously crafted songs, the group has amassed a nearly flawless catalog including its latest album, the oddly titled Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Also on the bill the Walkmen. The Walkmen are an indie rock band from New York City. Their sound is made unique with the use of vintage musical instruments, most famously the clangy upright piano. Their live show is spontaneous mayhem and not to be missed. White Rabbits formed in 2004, when members Greg Roberts and Stephen Patterson bonded as college students in Columbia, Missouri. They moved to New York City the next year and quickly expanded into a quintet, complete with two drummers. After signing to an independent record deal, the group recorded Fort Nightly, which expertly blends reggae and ska rhythms to form a sound its members describe as "honky-tonk calypso." Tickets are $22. They are available online or at the Capitol Theatre Box Office (cash only). Please note for this show there will be a minor surcharge of $2 collected at the door. This show is brought to you by the power 3some of Mammoth Productions, Daytrotter and Mission Creek Festival in Iowa City |

Maritime, featuring two members of the late and great Promise Ring, founders of emo before it went south, have continued to enhance a sound that is nearly pop perfection. Its latest, "Heresy and the Hotel Choir," is its finest hour yet, following lead singer Davey Von Bohlen's sparkling storytelling with a sonic sparring match of swelling guitars and more hooks than a tackle box. Fresh off a sold out tour with Jimmy Eat World. Listen to Maritime's latest Daytrotter session here. Opening will be special guest the Hood Internet. Ever want to hear Camrons fellatio raps over the Flaming Lips whacked-out future-folk? How about R. Kelly horndogging along to Broken Social Scene? Further breaking down the barriers between indie rock and rap, this twosome provides a steady stream of unlikely mash-ups that work improbably well. Tickets $5 at the door |

More than 25 years ago, Henry Rollins made a name for himself as the frenzied, tattooed front man for the hardcore punk band Black Flag. While many of his contemporaries have long since disappeared from the stage, Rollins is still performing. The free-associating wordsmith still dabbles in music but also gives spoken-word performances and has toured with the United Service Organizations (USO), providing comic relief to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Last Tour is a live recreation of the tour that inspired Don McLean's "American Pie" and coined the term "the Day the music died". It will be performed 50 years after the untimely deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Performers include Grammy winner Tommy Allsup (who played guitar with Holly when he played the Capitol) with Johnny Rogers, the Shackshakers and Richie Lee. Don't miss this once in a lifetime chance to experience the music of three great rock and roll legends in the actual theater where it was originally performed.
"I am in the English Channel. It is cold, exceedingly wet. I am the voice of Britain, before the daily express. My name is Britannia. This is my song. It's called : Dancing With The Moonlit Knight". This is just one of the magnificent Peter Gabriel's monologues during this exceptional show. He is in top form here, displaying his tremendous theatrics and a profound passion for the music of Genesis. The chemistry between he and his bandmates, Steve Hackett, Tony Banks, Phil Collins, & Michael Rutherford is highly evident. This had to be a time when they were right at their peak.

A four-piece band based in the Iowa & Illinois Quad Cities, Jim the Mule blends the gritty Rock and Roll textures of the late 60s and early 70s with touches of Southern Rock, Pop, Alternative Rock, and Country into something best described as Midwestern Rock and Roll. A testament to the popularity of their sound and live performances, the band has received numerous Best Local Rock Band honors in the River Cities Reader Best of the Quad Cities Poll.
