Capitol Theatre

Ani DiFranco

Doors 7:30 | Show 8:30
with Natalia Zukerman

Since releasing her first recording in 1990, Ani DiFranco has established herself as one of the most influential and inspirational artists of the modern era. DiFranco’s innovative guitar style, signature percussive fingerpicking, expressive vocals and incisive lyrics—along with a constitutional inability to be anything less than totally real—have earned her a loyal, dedicated fan base and ongoing critical acclaim.

The empowering spirit of this one-of-a-kind singer/songwriter, guitarist and producer is evident in songs that tackle barbed political and sexual issues with uncommon insight and compassion. With DiFranco, what you see and hear is what you get—the act of making music is inseparable from the process of living her life.

Opening is Natalia Zukerman. Expect rich layers of top notch guitar playing, contemporary beats and dark, sweet, provocative vocals.

Tickets are $27.50 in advance and $30 day of show. Click the ticket link to buy online or pay cash at the Capitol Box Office to avoid fees. This is a general admission show.

The Bix Afterglow Concert

Doors 6 pm | Show 7 pm
with Wally's Warehouse Waifs High Sierra Jazz Band Randy Sandke's NY Allstars
The perfect end to the Bix Jazz Festival is a musical evening in the cool confines of the Capitol Theatre. Harken back to the early days of jazz with three great traditional bands.

Wally's Warehouse Waifs hail from Michigan and play the music of the masters from the early New Orleans days through the Swing and Big Band eras. They merge their magical mix of talents to create jazz in its purist forms

The High Sierra Jazz Band is a hard-driving, energetic band playing west coast style music ala Turk Murphy and Lu Watters. The band was formed in 1976, and still has four of the original members. Their home base is Three Rivers, California.

Randy Sandke, a premier cornetist and student of Bix Beiderbecke, brings a line-up of all-star New York musicians to Davenport, Iowa, one of the few places on the planet that these musicians have not performed. Much of their music will be devoted to Bix and the bands in which he played.

Tickets are $13 and will be available at the door or at Capitol Theatre box office.

The Last Tour

with the music of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper
In late 1958, General Artists Corporation started putting together a rock and roll tour that would travel through the upper Midwestern states and feature some of music’s biggest stars. It was billed the Winter Dance Party tour and featured Buddy Holly and The Crickets, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, Dion and The Belmonts and Frankie Sardo and set off on January 23rd, 1959 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On January 29th, the tour played its only seated theater show at the Capitol Theatre in Davenport, IA. It became one of the most infamous tours in rock and roll history.

The Last Tour is a live recreation of the tour that inspired Don McLean's "American Pie" and coined the term "the Day the music died". It will be performed 50 years after the untimely deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Don't miss this once in a lifetime chance to experience the music of three great rock and roll legends in the actual theater where it was originally performed.

Proceeds benefit the Last Tour Scholarship fund that has raised more than $40,000 for regional music scholarships. More details to follow.
